As the 2009–2010 school year comes to a close, it’s time to start thinking about how best to clean, store and safeguard your SMART equipment. Here’s a selection of tips to help you prepare for a trouble-free term.
To prevent hardware damage in the event of severe thunderstorms, disconnect electrical equipment from wall outlets if it won’t be used.
Check your supply of the following items and order extras if needed:
Projector lamps
SMART Slate wireless slate batteries
Pen tray pens or erasers for SMART Board interactive whiteboards
If you won’t be using your slate for an extended period of time (one month or longer), fully recharge the battery, and then remove it from the slate.
Keep batteries out of the reach of children.
Avoid exposing the slate to extreme hot or cold temperatures. The storage temperature range is between 14°F and 140°F (-10°C and 60°C).
Don’t clean the slate with volatile liquids, such as paint thinner or benzene – they can damage the overlay. Instead, regularly clean the slate with a soft, damp cloth to remove dust and dirt particles. If necessary, dampen the cloth using mild soap diluted with water.
If you remove the Bluetooth USB adapters from computers over the summer break, label them with the computer identification so they can be replaced in the correct computers.
When you aren’t using the slate and its tools, store them in a clean, dry place.
Take the following precautions to prevent damage to the interactive screen and other components:
Don’t use abrasive erasers or harsh chemicals when cleaning your product.
Don’t leave adhesive tape on the writing surface for extended periods – lifting the tape can remove the coating that provides your product’s dry-erase capability.
Clean your projectors according to the cleaning instructions in your user’s guide. If you have a SMART UF55 or SMART UF55w projector, see smarttech.com/kb/146144.
